Indicele Hirsch este o metrică unificată a productivității științifice, utilizată pentru a evalua performanța cercetătorilor, grupurilor de cercetare, revistelor, organizațiilor și țărilor. Acesta este calculat pe baza a două variabile: indicele de citare și numărul de publicații.
Formula generală pentru calcularea indicelui Hirsch: H-index = h, dacă fiecare lucrare științifică (h) este citată de cel puțin h ori. Această metrică a fost dezvoltată de Jorge Hirsch în 2005. De atunci, a fost utilizată pe scară largă pentru evaluarea unificată a impactului studiilor științifice. Acest indicator a devenit atât de important încât toate bazele de date scientometrice și platformele globale îl folosesc: Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar etc.
Deși există sute de modificări ale indicelui Hirsch în prezent, cea mai populară versiune rămâne versiunea sa „clasică” de aproape 20 de ani.

Indicele Hirsch în Google Scholar este unul dintre cei mai cuprinzători indicatori ai activității științifice ale unui cercetător, deoarece reflectă întreaga gamă de realizări științifice ale autorului. Acesta ia în considerare popularitatea lucrărilor științifice ale autorului și activitatea cercetătorului pe baza tuturor materialelor disponibile pe internet.
Având în vedere caracterul deschis al platformei Google Scholar, indicele Hirsch este de obicei mai mare aici decât în Scopus și Web of Science.
Clasamentul Național H-index al Moldovei este o listă de clasificare a organizațiilor de cercetare și a cercetătorilor din țară. Acesta este format pe baza indicelui Hirsch din Scopus, Web of Science și Google Scholar, împărțit la doi*.
*Pentru calcularea clasamentului, organizatorii au decis să împartă indicele Hirsch din Google Scholar la doi. Acest lucru se datorează unei selecții mai puțin riguroase a datelor, care pot fi duplicate în diferite limbi și pot avea o valoare științifică mai scăzută. Calcularea H-indexului (Google Scholar) ca ½ din indicele Hirsch în Google Scholar minimizează impactul acestor informații asupra clarității, transparenței și calității calculelor.

National H-index – is the arithmetic average of the H-index (Scopus), H-index (Web of Science), and H-index (Google Scholar). This indicator is used to determine the position of the institution in the ranking (Position).
The Moldovan National H-index Ranking uses information from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar to collect data and assess the scientific productivity of scientists, research groups, and research organizations in each country.
The following is a general approach to calculating the Moldovan National H-index Ranking based on these three databases:
Moldovan National H-index Ranking collects data from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, using keyword queries and filters to find studies published by scientists and institutions in each country.
Moldovan National H-index Ranking evaluates the scientific productivity of scientists, research groups, and scientific organizations using the H-index metric. For each scientist and research group in each country, the H-index is calculated using information from the Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases.
Moldovan National H-index Ranking ranks scientists, research groups, and research organizations in each country based on their H-index. Scientists and groups are ranked in descending order of the H-index, i.e., scientists and groups with higher Hirsch indexes are higher in the ranking.
Moldovan National H-index Ranking ranks the results depending on the project's objectives and the specifics of each country's scientific productivity.
The positions of scientific organizations in the Moldovan National H-index Ranking are divided into three categories:
In addition to the ranking positions of research organizations, the "TOP 1000 scientists" within each of them are determined. This is an individual rating of scientists within research institutions based on the total H-index.
The Moldovan National H-index Ranking provides information on the total score of the country's Worst Country Index for three metrics:

The ranked lists are formed based on the author's methodology, the main indicators of which are described above. The process of data analysis is carried out using specialized computer programs, mathematical models, and computing equipment with the use of manual processing of the information received.
The ranking is updated twice a year: in May and November. This allows to meet the needs of scientific organizations as much as possible, as these months are the period of reporting on the results of scientific and publication activities.
Based on the Moldovan National H-index Ranking Roadmap, the process of updating the information will become even more prompt (every month), and in the most positive scenario, the Moldovan National H-index Ranking indicators will be updated in real-time.
The responsibility for the accuracy of the data and indicators lies with the scientific organizations and authors. To ensure the correctness of the data, we advocate for regular profile reviews. Organizations should review the profiles and indicators of their affiliated scientists to identify the use of unfair practices. Scientific institutions should take the necessary corrective and preventive measures against violations of the ethics of scientific publications.
The Moldovan National H-index Ranking tries to cover the maximum number of scientific organizations and profiles of scientists around the world. However, due to the global amount of data and the relative closeness of some platforms, there may be cases when the profile of an organization/author is missing.
